Hand Painted Black Ceramic Pumpkin Trinket Box with Aged Bronze Detail

There is something about a little box that makes you want to lift the lid and see what’s inside.

I gave this small ceramic pumpkin an entirely different personality by painting the exterior in a deep black finish and then bringing out the sculpted leaves, stem and tiny curling vine with aged bronze highlights. I left the original interior untouched, creating a contrast between the dark exterior and the finish hidden beneath the lid.

The bronze was applied to catch the raised areas rather than completely cover them, allowing the black to remain visible through the finish and giving the pumpkin the appearance of something that has naturally worn and aged over time.

This is a small piece—truly small enough to fit in the palm of your hand—but that is part of its charm. Use it on a nightstand or dresser for rings and other tiny treasures, tuck it into a Halloween vignette, or add it to a shelf filled with collected curiosities.
